Welcome to the

YMCA of El Paso

The YMCA of El Paso strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. We’re more than just a place to work out. At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.

With a commitment to nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.

Healthy Kids Day

Summer is a time of active play and exploration for kids. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the spirit, mind and body ends with the school year. In fact, research shows that kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind in studies over the summer months.

As part of the Y's commitment to strengthen community by addressing critical gaps in health and education, Healthy Kids Day encourages kids and parents to commit to keeping the spirit, mind and body active this summer.

As a leading nonprofit strengthening community through healthy living, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day each spring to teach healthy habits to kids and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity. One in three children in the United States is overweight or obese according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Developing healthier habits that include increased physical activity is more important than ever.

The YMCA's Healthy Kids Day is the nation’s largest health day for families. As part of Healthy Kids Day, the Y encourages families to make play dates every day as a simple way to become healthier, more active and connected.

The YMCA of El Paso also recommends six simple activities families can do to play together, any day.

1. Begin the Weekend with a Game Night: Play games with the kids that incorporate physical activity, such as Charades.

2. Rumba, Salsa, Disco: Turn on your favorite party music and dance! Make this activity more fun with a dance contest.

3. Unicycles, Bicycles or Tricycles: Find a new bike path or park for a fun afternoon outdoors; grab your helmets and go rollerblading or bike riding.

4. Channel Your Inner Youth: Remember playing hopscotch, jump rope, Simon Says or freeze tag as a kid? Teach your favorite childhood game to your kids and play them together.

5. Escape to the Outdoors: Visit your neighborhood park or camp out in your backyard for some outdoor fun. Get everyone moving with fun sports like soccer, basketball or baseball.

6. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah: Karaoke is fun for the whole family. So are group sing-a-longs.  Search the web for some of those camp songs you sang as a kids and introduce them to a whole new generation!

The Y is committed to providing programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. We make every effort to ensure that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Click to read more about our financial assistance.
